Clinically, I draw primarily from two therapeutic approaches in my work. Existential-Humanistic Psychotherapies are therapies that focus on the person’s relationship to themselves and others and view the therapy relationship itself rather than a particular technique or programized format as the engine of the change process. As an existential therapist trained at the prestigious Existential-Humanistic Institute, I facilitate growth and healing through the cultivation of awe, meaning, and a sense of authentic response-ability in clients. I believe people change as we rein habit the parts of ourselves we’ve been shut off from.
I am also trained in a three year trauma credential called Somatic Experiencing®. Somatic Experiencing (SE) works with the part of the nervous system responsible for our survival responses like fight, flight, freeze, and fawn. SE is a powerful tool for resolving a host of mental and physical health problems by working gently with the body’s natural responses.
I’m also familiar with other approaches that may be helpful such as Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing
Training
I have been a certified instructor in the U.S. Army since 2013 when I entered the Army certified instructor pipeline at the Fort Bragg Noncommissioned Officer Academy and started teaching Army leadership there.
Since then I’ve become a U.S. Army Master Resilience Trainer and Suicide Prevention Liaison and have over 5 years teaching resilience and suicide prevention.
I also serve on the North Carolina First Responder Peer Support Team teaching topics like: suicide prevention, having hard conversations in polarizing times, vicarious trauma, and resilience among others to North Carolina’s first responders.
My vision for training in the church is that our local churches might become a place where people walk with Christ well as they grow in their mental health and become more resilient. That our churches might be places where the mental, emotional, and relational health of pastors is regarded and cared for well.
If you’re interested in hosting a training, reach out and let’s talk about what that could look like. It can be in person with the proper precautions in place or virtual and can be a variety of lengths from one hour to half day or even day long mini-conferences. There are a variety of overall topics and ways that we can organize this so reach out and let’s get started!
